BONE IDOL & THE VICTIMS
After the demise of THE UNINVITED, Steve Lines does very little for most of 1982. In October of that year he tries to form a 'glam rock' band called THE MYSTERY GIRLS with Mark Angell (MAXIMUM ATTACK), Nigel Easton (THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE) and Dave Seal (STICKY WICKET). The band falls apart leaving Steve and Dave. They continue to write songs and link up again with Steve Case (who is back from Crawley) and Jeff Grundy. Plans to form a new band THE CREEPY CRAWLIES get underway but come to nothing. Dave Seal leaves to joing THE GENERALS, leaving the three original members of THE UNINVITED, but transport problems mean that the Chippenham duo can't make practises so the band splits in December 1982.
In January 1983 Steve Lines teams up with vocalist Jerry Johnson and the couple begin writing and rehearsing original material under the moniker of BONE IDOL. They play an ad hoc gig on June 26th at a garden party in Hilmarton and play the "Mutant Rock" party the next evening at Compton Bassett on June 27th 1983.

Also playing on the bill that night were THE VICTIMS. At the same time as he was writing with Jerry Johnson, Steve Lines was also writing with Mark Angell with the idea of forming a band called ROOM 101. As time progressed and the line-up fluctuated they decided on a name change to THE VICTIMS OF CIRCUMSTANCE, which was finally shortened to simply THE VICTIMS. Simon Bewlay (who was in WHITE HEAT at the time) was the drummer and Darren (Bod) Lugg was the bassist. The band were inspired by the likes of Killing Joke, Soft Cell, The Cramps and The Damned. This was their only gig and they split up soon after.
